A time/space distortion sends two battling spaceships far into the past where they crash-land on a mysterious planet. The surviving groups, the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, find large deposits of Energon which, in such great quantities, is harmful to their robot forms, forcing them to adopt organic forms to survive. Thus, the Maximals and Predacons are born.
